Getting to Reggio Emilia

Reggio Emilia is located approximately midway between Milan and Florence. Milan Malpensa Airport is the largest international airport with relatively easy train transportation to Reggio Emilia. Also, Venice, Florence, and even Rome are only 2-4 hours away by train. We recommend exploring all options for international flights.

Train fares depend on speed, time of day, and number of stops. Sometimes, a train a few minutes later or slower can be considerably less expensive.

The city of Reggio Emilia is served by two train stations:

Reggio Emilia Railway Station (Stazione di Reggio Emilia)
Located in the city center, this station serves regional and intercity trains. It is part of the traditional Italian railway network managed by Trenitalia. Hotels and our learning environments are walking distance from the Reggio Emilia train station. Trains serviced by this station tend to be slower and less expensive.

Reggio Emilia AV Mediopadana Station (Stazione Reggio Emilia AV Mediopadana)
Located outside the city center, this station is a hub for high-speed trains (Alta Velocità) on Italy’s main high-speed rail line. (faster and typically more expensive bullet trains) If you arrive at this station, you will need to catch a taxi to your hotel.

Both stations cater to different types of rail services, making Reggio Emilia accessible both regionally and nationally.

Be sure to have a valid current passport and be sure that it does not expire within six months of your departure from Italy (or any other EU nation)

Citizens of some countries may need a visa to enter the EU.

US citizens may be required to get a European Travel Information and Authorization System to enter the European Union “sometime in 2025,” but this has yet to be finalized. Follow the instructions of your airline.
